One of three 1870s notebooks today from a George Abbott of Boston, MA, each special in its own way. This small one begins with a list of the causes of the American Revolution, followed by a few lists of exports and imports, then latitudes and longitudes of major U.S. cities. Then a series of dense pages of math calculations, evolving into what feel to me almost like pure drawings, with a sort of cobweb of lines bracketing one problem from the next. Great handwriting on the cover, with little head at top, and ink drawn monogram in fraktur lettering on the inside front cover. (And, feeling like closure, or perhaps just for the love of writing the word: "bottom" written at the bottom edge of the back cover.)
6 1/2" x 4 1/4". 16 pages plus brown paper covers, almost all pages filled both front and back. All in good condition.
