Signed Folk Art Carving of Pointing Hand

Regular price $90.00

I found this carving at an antiques shop in Maine, along with a carved spruce gum box listed separately, and have a bit of feeling that they were done by the same maker. The box held a deck of early 20th century alphabet cards, so I might guess that both this and the box date to around then, though I am not 100% sure. Carved into the underside of the base of the hand is what looks to be "MC11," perhaps the initials of the carver and the year 1911. In any event, a fun and very folky one, great in many contexts, with the carving nicely enhanced by the grain of the wood.

5 3/4" t x 2 3/4" w x 1 3/4" d and in very good condition. Cuff/base stained/painted black and a layer of varnish over the whole thing.
