Another old folk art farm painting, because I can't resist them, and I think the painted cows on this one are especially good. I spend a lot of tine driving, and walking, too, around places that still look very much like this, which makes it feel both quintessential New England and also specific, as if I might drive right by this particular property still looking very much the same. It looks to me that the figure here in blue coat and black hat holds a rifle in his hand, so off to hunt he goes (or else perhaps to settle a matter with the neighboring estate!)
10" x 8". Oil on board with clear coat. There is one small scratch of paint loss, showing white, just to the right of the figure. Paint loss around the perimeter from where it was clearly previously framed.
