Fabulous c. 1980s Hair Stylist's Sign, Kumasi, Ghana, Painted Plywood

Regular price $185.00

There are many many wonderful examples of painted signs from barbers and hairdressers in Ghana, Burkino Faso, Ivory Coast, and Tofo dating from the 1970-ies to the present--but I must say this is one of my favorites I've seen, including for how regal and really Cleopatra-esque she is, and also for being a cutout. This sign is from Kumasi, Ghana, with Ahenboboano I believe referring to the location (Airport Road) and Elvis the name of the painter, specifically "Nana Elvis" I think, as I've found a few other examples of hairdresser signs from Kumasi bearing that name.  On the reverse side in small letters is written "Aliza". C. 1980s or so I believe, hand-painte on thin plywood, with a small square cutout for hanging.

17 3/4" w x 21 1/2" t, painted plywood and in good condition, with a few losses the surface of the reverse side facing on the plywood--no real matter, but best hung inside!
