Extra Large Old Painted Treen Apple with Stencil Painted Green Leaves

Regular price $95.00

I have an eye out for turned wooden apples at all times, but have rarely found one nicer than this, a large one, in near perfect condition, and the first I've find with green painted leaves, which of course make me think of theorem watercolors. These were made in Japan for the Western market, beginning in the late 19th century/1900 or so I believe, often holding horse roulette game or miniature tea sets inside (the former perhaps the case here, but if so, long gone.)  Bright and crisp all the way around, a perfect  gift for the apple of one's eye, with plenty or room inside for additional treats.

5 1/4" t x 4 5/16" d, beautiful condition, earlyish 20th c. I believe.
