This is one of several c. 1890s drawings by a brilliant young Emma Dilmore that I purchased from a seller near Kansas City, MO and just exactly the sort of watercolor drawing I am forever searching for. Double sided (reverse shown) but I think this purple crested, orange breasted bird floating in the air above two colorfully blooming plants wins, and gave it special treatment by placing it in a really lovely recently purchased 19th century lemon gold frame that was waiting for the right thing and which I think honors it properly. With graphite drawn legs and feet on the bird that find an echo in the penciled roots of those plants. Pure joy and delight.
Drawing: 6 1/4 x 4 1/16. Framed:9 1/8" x 7 1/8". All in very good condition.
