Doubly Lovely: Victorian Tinsel Painting of Flowers in Original Shell Decorated Frame from Bristol, Maine

Regular price $200.00

I found this one in southern Maine this week and it is PERFECT. (Photos might suggest it is very small, but it is in fact quite substantial, and heavy, and feels very much an object with that really excellent seashell frame, shells on solid wood, with gold painted sides.) I do believe the frame is original to the tinsel reverse glass painting, all in beautiful condition, without a shell missing. And I have to say this is about as elegant a tinsel painting as I've ever seen--look at the detail photos of those hydrangea and voluptuous rose. I would be very glad to keep this one for myself, many things at once and just lovely.

10 1/2" x 7 7/8", original frame with mellow gold painted sides. All in marvelous condition. Wood back of frame appears to have been stamped "Bristol, Maine." Third quarter 19th century I would guess.
