This is one of my very favorite Brimfield finds; to my eye a perfect thing, including for how the combination of simple box and pointy ball in cage whimsy renders it, in just about the most concise, minimalist manner possible, a piece of tabletop architecture: a church with a steeple. I'm forever on the hunt for old painted whimsies, hard to find and as good as can be here in sea-foam green with dark red ball inside--but how much better attached to a homemade box with great lines--and a red painted interior too. The whimsy is attached to the lid of the box from the inside, with a second panel on the underside of the lid concealing what I think is likely a screw attaching it. Really excellent.
6 5/16" x 3 7/8" x 5 3/4" tall. All in very good condition, with just a little paint loss /wear to the corners of the lid. Lid sits flat and flush, all sound and stable and completely usable as a box.
