This "ball" puzzle, comprised of interlocking solid brass pieces, was designed in 1967 by Charles O. Perry (American 1929-2011), a sculptor and designer best known for monumental structures composed with mathemetical complexity. There is one "key" piece that spring locks into place to complete the puzzle, and will release once one finds it (a bit of trial and error but not hard) to allow one to take it apart. (I have not ventured to do so!)
The first editions of these were produced in the 60s and then another edition c. 1982. Some were signed, some I have seen not; this one is not, or at least I don’t see it, but I am sure it is the real deal, and my gut tells me 1960s rather than 80s, though I don't know for sure. General wear, nice patina to the brass, much better than my photos convey (honestly I am not loving my new iphone for photographing small objects), solid and quite heavy and very satisfying in hand. A lovely and iconic thing (like a next generation Aubock)--and there are plenty of instructions out there on line for solving it once taken apart!
Approx 1 1/2" d. Good vintage condition, general light wear, nice patina to the brass.
