I did not know that the giraffes were once called Cameleopards, but I sure was delighted to have this tiny 19th c. British child's (or doll's?) mug be the thing to teach me of that fact...made to teach, and still imparting lessons centuries later! Cameleopard, I've learned, is the more traditional English expression for a giraffe, deriving from the Greek from kámēlos “camel” and párdalis “leopard”--which remained in common use in England until the late 19th century, but is pretty archaic now. Making this little mug (note, of a smaller scale than a typical child's mug), of which I can find no other out there anywhere, feel all the more of a rare survivor. And not a chip or crack on it either!
1 5/8" t x 1 5/8" d x 2 1/8" across at handle. Very good condition. A few imperfections to the application of the transfer, original to it, and minor staining to the interior, as there should be. Bright and crisp.
