SOLD Boa Having Eaten an Antelope, With Excellent Sleuthy Shadow, Earlyish 20th C. French Photograph

Regular price $120.00

The sight of a boa having just consumed an antelope is indeed quite a phenomenal one, and the form of the snake's very long body here, large bulge at the center, just formally quite extraordinary. But for me it is the presence of the shadow at lower right, of man in hat looking rather like an inspector and coming in on the diagonal that really completes it for me. Plus that second shadow, a sort of mysterious near-horizontal line at lower left, and the patterns and play of geometries on the slatted wall with overhang of grass roof too. Another photo I could look at all day and forever.

4 5/8" x 3 1/2". Good condition. A few very black spots on the photo, most prominently at upper left center, which appears more as if on the negative than atop the image.  Text on reverse in French, with remnants of black paper at the corners.  Shot here inside clear photo corners.
