I found these at an antique shop in New Hampshire, which has very beautiful things, and passed them by the first time I saw them, as they were pretty dear. But over the following couple of weeks I thought about them, and even dreamed about them! I don't think photos do them full justice, but the old paint and softened edges and just all over patina on these is to my eye just spectacularly beautiful, and while I have certainly seen other old German Erzgebirge houses and villages and Noah's arcs, too, this 19th century set are, to my sensibility, the very best I've ever seen!
23 houses total. Largest measures approx 2 1/2" l x 2 1/16" t. Smallest approx 1 7/16" l x 1 1/16" t. Plenty of paint loss and wear around the edges, which is part of what makes them great. All stand up staight, and the two-piece houses are firm joined, no looseness or wobbling.
