It has really become the case that I really love nothing more than a great tintype portrait, and there are a few today that make me consider dealing in nothing but tintypes! This guy is one of those. I take this as an occupational portrait, and though I'm not completely certain I presume he's a mail carrier, with his cap perched at his side atop his satchel, and a roll of papers just to the left of that. Both rest atop what looks to be hand-painted paper draped over a stool or crate or something--with the image of a folded newspaper painted on it sandwiched between floral border and more flowers. Curious. And what a great face and large ears on our young man, with tinted pink cheeks and watch chain, looking rather serious about, or at least resigned to, his duties. (He reminds me a little of the British actor Josh O'Connor, too.)
4 x 2 3/4". Very good condition, clipped corners and left edge as evident.
