I’d like to imagine this was once the lid of a box that held a set of beautiful bone carved letters, and that its owner carved a second alphabet into the lid to make it extra special. Really, I have no idea how it came to be, but I sure love it, with the carved divets on the slide lid dictating the starting position for the first two rows of letters, and pointing at them like arrows. Then one longer spanning the whole lenght, leaving just a lonely YZ for the last line. I’d put a hook on the back and hang it on the wall; just perfect.
5 11/16" x 2 7/8" and in excellent condition with a terrific dry wood patina.
