It looks to me like a "D" at the center of the collar of this sweet pup, though there are two trails off of it that might make it an "R"...whatever the case, he or she sure looks like a very good and kind old friend to me! Not a fussy thing about this drawing, which feels to me like quite a tender and true portrait, and one teeming with love. Fabulous.
Charcoal and white chalk on on paper (ground is charcoal as well), sold in the black painted old wood frame I found it in, I believe original to it and which I think suits it well. Late 19th/very early 20th century I believe. I have not removed it from the frame, which features old black paper on the back, but both drawing and frame appear in very good condition.
Framed: 14 7/8" x 13 1/8". Drawing size: 10 3/4" x 9 1/8". The is some glare showing in some photos; not flaws. Wired on the back for hanging.
