Annie Darragh, The Elder Sister, 19th C. Ink Drawing with SeeSawing Children on Reverse

Regular price $80.00

The drawing of the "elder sister"--book open, cross around her neck, and younger brother to either side-- is what first sold me on this 19th c. ink drawing, but there are more delights to be found everywhere, including those great baskets filled high with fruit, that energetically rendered tree (the source of the bounty I presume) with a little bird on a branch to the right side, and a series of scrolls announcing the drawing as the work of a young Annie Darragh. And on reverse a charming little drawing of two children in hats on a see saw, plus more little sketches in graphite on both sides. I just can't walk away from drawings like this.

8" x 5" and in good condition, black ink (and a few touches of blue ink) and graphite. Mid 19th century I believe, with an embossed stamp (J.L Read & Son) at top left corner.
