A Lamb to the Slaughter, Unusual Antique Punched Paper Embroidery

Regular price $45.00

Not for the faint of heart! And, for me, quite an extraordinary thing, which dates to the late 1800s I believe. Often one does find these punched or perforated paper embroideries bearing religious messages (as well as things like "Bless this Home")  but I never have I seen one like this, certainly referring to the crucifixion of Jesus, but making one wonder a bit about the context in which this was made and hung. Taken in a contemporary context, it feels like a highly resonant and potent metaphor.

6 3/4" x 4 1/16" framed, as I found it. Plenty of foxing/staining to the backing paper to which the embroidery is mounted but the embroidery is in fairly good shape and I would hang it just as it is. I have not taken it out of the frame.
