Wonderful 1950 Pencil Signed Mixed Media Print “Bird” by Harold Zussin

Regular price $125.00

What I've learned about Harold Zussin, who did this striking "Bird," in 1950, is that he was born in Chicago, 1915, and that apart from a brief period of study at the Evening School of the Art Institute of Chicago, was entirely self taught. He seems to have been active in Chicago, with a  a two person exhibition at the Art Institute of Chicago in 1948, and later in Maine, with auction records from the sale of his work through several auction houses in Maine and also through Skinner in Boston.

This appears to me to be a mixed media print, with some areas looking more like crayon, though it is a bit hard to tell. Photos do it no justice; the color is very rich and it really has the feeling of a drawing. I purchased this from a Maine dealer at an antiques show last weekend, and could have sold it a few times over while waiting to pay for it... but saved it for you!

Sold as found with what appears to be a fairly recently cut mat. Paper: 12 x 9 1/4”. Mat: 15 5/8” x 13 1/8. Excellent condition.
