I love the spareness and crudeness of this one, which gives thanks to San Antonio Abad (Anthony the Great) for healing the paralyzed legs of the son of Lucrezia Queretaro, who offered her thanks in 1932. I believe it is likely Lucrecia with her son in her arms pictured at center, dwarfed by bed and bench, as nothing more than a small, shadowy brown silhouette--a pretty poignant portrait of need and humility if I ever saw it. And then St. Anthony at right encircled in light, with fists pointing inward as if trying with all his might to make the miracle happen. Certainly there are much more dazzling ex voto retablo out there, but earnest ones like this really win me.
12 1/16" x 9 1/8". Good condition, with a bit of bend in the tin; not evident when hung. Hole at center top for hanging.
