1853 W.& S.B.Ives, Salem MA Goody Two Shoes Parlor Game - 4 Cards + Instructions (Among the Earliest Parlor Games)

Regular price $55.00

Though there are only four cards here, they are super scarce ones, as is the sheet of printed game instructions, all produced by  Q. & S. B. Ives Company of Salem, Massachusetts, the first American producer of board games (The Mansion of Happiness in 1830 the earliest) and card games, with these dating to 1853. I believe this "Goody Two Shoes Game," along with the better known "Dr. Busby," was designed by Anne W. Abbott (1808-1908) of Beverly, MA, a game designer, magazine editor, literary reviewer, and author. Though I wish I had them all, the four here make quite a lovely quartet I think. I especially Iove that the "letter from London" card is numbered/lettered U4--which, flipped, is 4U, as in a letter for you.

Cards measure 3 1/4" x 2 1/2" each. All in very good antique condition. Unprinted reverses.
