I was so delighted to find these, and remain delighted every time I look at them and pick them up. They are tin spinning toys, sold by Hochschild, Kohn & Co. Department Store in Baltimore (opened 1897) in its earliest days, c. 1900 I believe, with a flag at the top of the bird toy bearing the store's name and location. Hold them upside down by their twisted and looped wire handles and the rings and bird will fall (or spiral in the case of the bird) to that end, then hold them flag side up and the rings and bird will spin all the way down. (My poorly shot video clips give a sense.) Very scarce, super charming, and I think I would never tire of playing with them!
Bird: 16" t x 3 1/4" w. Intertwining Rings: 13" x 2 11/16". The bird sometimes needs a little push to start spinning, but then works just as it should.
