A very curious little thing, and one of my very favorite recent finds. Seems to me the side with the hunting dog came first, made as a print block, but then someone decided to carve this face of a child (with marvelous collar!) into the wood on the reverse side--not to be printed, but just as a carving. A quite a skillful carver they were, so beautifully done, with the face looking perhaps Native American, or Inuit, to me. A bit mysterious feeling, and wonderfully so, with the face oriented to maximize the surface area of the wood, but oriented in the opposite direction to the dog.
1 1/8" t x 15/16" w x 1 1/2" d and in lovely condition, with a rich patina to the dry wood. I have a hard time shooting small wooden objects well with my phone, but I think photos give a pretty good sense.
