I don't hunt nearly as actively for tramp art boxes as I once did--there are plenty of others who do--but give me a box with a heart at the center of it, and I'll usually jump on it. The underside of this one, which I purchased in Nashville from a dealer based in Iowa who always has many things I love, shows it was crafted from a Morris D. Neumann 5 cent cigar box, a fairly rare one, dating it to the first decade of the 20th century I believe. I like its neat compactness and all of those scalloped edges, each layer stepping in just a bit from the one below it. And a red velvet lined interior compartment, as there should be inside a box with a heart, with velvet on the interior of the lid, too.
8 1/8" x 5 1/8" x 2 1/8" t. Very good condition, sturdy and sound and no losses or splits, just a little wear to the surface stain along the edge where the lid sits atop the box, as pictured.
