This is one of three carved whimsies today, and one of two of them found in Maine. What makes this one unusual is the two platforms carved into the larger "cage," giving each ball its own sort of room. (A place for everything and everything in its place--and this one keeps calling to mind 'peas in a pod,' too.) Nice too how each side of those platforms, and top and bottom of the whimsy too, were carved in, making concave curves. Sweet, and one certainly feels the hand of the maker all over this one.
4" x 1" x 7/8". Good condition, light in weight--pine I believe. Earlier 20th century I would guess.
