On the heels of yet another snow here I found this in southern Maine and it was just the right thing--a 19th century tin cup delivering a harbinger of spring. As found--I can't say how long this quail's nest and egg have lived inside this cup, but I will say that I did do a fair bit of dust removal from the surface of the nest. And the nest is sized exactly right for the cup, as if it were built inside of it. And that spotted egg is lovely and without a crack on it. I'll be happy to hold onto this hopeful feeling thing for a while or forever.
