Feick Bros. CO. Pittsburgh Surgical Needles Salesman Samples Book

Regular price $85.00

George Feick (1855-1923) was a surgical instrument maker from Germany who arrived in the US in 1881 and established a small repair shop in Pittsburgh; by the 1890s, his sons Carl and Edwin joined the operation and the firm became the Feick Bros. Company.  The logo on this salesman sample binder of five pages worth of surgical needles dates it to the late 1920s or so, I believe. A few needles missing here and there, but I find the pattens they form arranged together quite beautiful--and like the thought that each of these needles was shaped and scaled to perform a very specific surgical task, all toward mending the body.

Binder 11 5/8" x 9 1/2" x 7/8. Five pages of needle samples on heavy weight board, as documented. Each needle held to board by tiny yellow thread loops, with a few missing here and there as shown (easily to see by virtue of loose yellow thread.)  Pages easily removed from three ring binder. Overall good condition.
