I considered listing them as a collection, but realized much of what I find especially beautiful about these is their specificity and singularity in terms of form and content (color, composition, and in this case very much the handwritten names and notes) and so have treated them as individual drawings of sorts--and certainly they're very much portraits too. And what a wonderful dynamic to this one--two loops of hair side by side for Katie and Little Frankie (I believe!), and then a straight line of a small hair bundle as far away as you could get (as if they were estranged relatives!), the name on which I can't quite decipher. And on the back a short handwritten verse, "Remembrance," the date March 20, 1867, and I believe it says West Zanesville, Ohio.

Paper size 5" x 2 1/2". Very good condition, tightly tethered, a few scattered toning spots all to the good.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0015/5022/1382/files/IMG_4645_04876463-0056-4752-9780-e01ee74afd07.png?v=1761778105
https://www.criticaleyefinds.com/products/two-loops-and-a-line-victorian-mounted-hair-samples-drawing-1867-with-verse-on-reverse
