Syroco Ornawood Vintage Collie and Shepherd Dog Portrait Wall Plaques - A Pair

Regular price $40.00

I’m pretty taken with these Syroco (Syracuse Ornamental Company) Ornawood (made from wood pulp) wall plaques, one a Collie and the other a German Shepherd. From what I understand, Syroco was founded in 1890 in Syracuse, New York, and was the first company to produce decorative molded wood pulp products with a hand carved look. These two I believe date from the 1930s or 40s, and I think it is the degree to which they take themselves seriously as portraits that I find so appealing, and that even with mouths open and tongues bared these dogs seem positively regal. I’d love them as much hanging in a very traditional home as in a rustic cabin, and might be inclined to adopt a couple of actual dogs who bear their likeness!

Each measures 4 7/8” tall x 4” wide x 1/4” deep. Great condition. Sold here as a pair but please email me if you prefer only one ($24 each).
