Late 17th/Early 18th Century Blue and White Delft Tile

It has been a while since I found an early Delft tile to love, but I really love this one, including for the fact that our swinging boy looks rather melancholic--and no wonder, with his swing appearing untethered to anything, just a couple of tiny flags that don't look like they'll do much good softening his landing. And so it all feels like something of an existential portrait to me, which of course is my favorite kind. Late 17th/early 18th century Dutch, with date determined both by the materiality of the tile and glaze itself and the manner of the rendering.

4 15/16" x 4 15/16". Surface chips and edge wear as evident as well as some crazing (craquelure) to the whit glaze, which I like. Stable and sound, no cracks or other issues.

https://www.criticaleyefinds.com/products/swinging-child-charming-c-late-17th-early-18th-century-blue-and-white-delft-tile
