Mid 19th Century","description":"\u003cp\u003eAs I too often am sorry to say, photos do no justice at all to these blocks, which have an old light varnish finish over top, so are hard to shoot-- details give a somewhat better sense, and there is a whole lot of charm in the details here! Terrific imagery, terrific words, with the face of each handmade block a hand-colored print, I think likely paper cut from an early  children's picture alphabet book then mounted to the hand-cut wooden blocks. (I can find no other set like this out there.) Not a complete alphabet here but nearly so--21 of what would have been 25 blocks (I and J are combined); missing are B, U, V and X. \u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eEach block 3 1\/8\" x 2 3\/4\" x 5\/8\". General wear and aging, which I think add to their charms.
