Dating to sometime between the 1820s and 1840s, it was produced as propaganda or sorts in the anti-Corn Law campaigns in England during that period. (And what better way to propagandize than on a child's plate, ha?!)  The Corn Laws, passed in 1815, were meant to protect the price of grain (corn) from the competition of foreign markets, but instead created a monopoly that enriched landowners, while \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan\u003emaking it much more expensive for common people to buy food (grain for bread). This hand-painted transfer decorated plate bears the motto of the Anti-Corn Law League: \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan\u003e\"Our Bread Untaxed Our Commerce Free,\" with a golden sheaf of wheat at the very center. \u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cspan\u003e6\" diameter.
