My favorite thing about this wonderfully hand-painted photo portrait is this exuberantly and very painterly painted hat, which looks rather like a white cake with colorful frosting all over it! But the treatment of her dress I think is just right too, with a great folkiness that animates and humanizes her in a wonderful way, and makes what seems like her Sunday best feel all the more special and significant. (And which also makes her feel rather like a paper doll, overlaid with one of many costumes.) Of course this should have been placed in a velvet lined case and framed in gold--the perfect housing for her!
Closed case measures 4 7/8" x 4 1/16" x 15/16". Sight" 3 11/16" x 3". In very good condition, housed under glass, with a little surface wear to the top edge of the frame around her. Case snaps tightly closed.
