Late 19th Century

So fun, and what a portrait, and surely a hand-drawn dollar bill will hold its value more than a real one!(: Lots and lots packed in here--detail photos give a good sense, including of lots of exuberant mark-making and pattern. I know from the seller that this, and a second listed today, were pulled out of an old estate in Louisville, Kentucky. This one seems to draw reference/inspiration from numerous currency sources, later 19th century treasury notes among them it seems; I think it is from the last decade or two of the 1800s or so. With what appear to be a rubbings of coins executed in graphite, too, underlying the pen work. (More rubbings on the other example, including of a half dime, (minted from 1792 to 1873.) I know hand-drawn fantasy money was a thing (and may yet be again!) but this/these are really the first examples I've come across and I think they're quite fantastic.

7 3/4" x 3 1/8". Ink and graphite on good weight wove paper. Ink bold and all more or less readable, and with no real bleed-through from one side to the other. Very good condition.

https://www.criticaleyefinds.com/products/funny-money-curious-old-hand-drawn-folk-art-dollar-ink-on-wove-c-late-19th-century
