Cigarette cards originated in the late 19th century as unprinted cardboard \"\u003cmeta charset=\"utf-8\"\u003estiffeners\" inserted into paper cigarette packets, but quickly morphed into highly collectible advertisements for the brands, with themed series of a far-ranging variety of subjects produced.
