The paper label on the jointed, slide lid box here reads Goodyear Rapid Needles, Manufactured for the United Shoe Machinery Co, Boston, by Excelsior Needle Co, which a little research helps me date to right around 1890. But of course it is the handmade wooden dice I really love, in a variety of sizes, some with dots marked in ink, some graphite, and there is some color on the near black ones;  some drawn right onto the surfaces, but most with the dots just a bit incised. All a little wonky in one way or another, which is just how I like them! And with \"Shimes\" handwritten on two exterior sides of the box, which seems to me perhaps a misspelling of \"Shims\" as this would be a good sort of box for stashing bits of wood to slip under a table leg here and there to level, but I don't know for sure.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e Box 3 7\/16\" x 2 5\/8\" x 1 1\/4\". Smallest die 3\/8\" cubed. Box and paper label shows plenty of wear, all to the good in my opinion.
