And\/also, I really like the painting of that basket-like urn and its very feathery scroll handles! It is a folk art reverse glass (eglomise) tinsel painting, late 19th century so so I believe--but I think its maker did not fully consider the need to leave unpainted areas for the foil to show and shimmer through, so it is more reverse glass than tinsel. In this case the tinsel (foil) appears to have been of a copper tone, which lends a warm glow here and there, especially through the white paint. (A few of my detail photos give a sense.) The glass itself was blown, with bubbles in it here and there, and reverse painted black--it really reflects\/ bounces light, such that a candle or a few in front of this would really make it lively. \u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e21 1\/2\" x 18 3\/8\" framed. Sight 17 1\/4\" x 14 1\/4\". Painting in very good condition, with a little loss\/aging to the black paint visible at the corners--usually the case with these and here pretty minor and not detracting. Framed as found, with some light scratching to the gilded surface of the wooden frame, I presume original.
