{"product_id":"amish-artist-barbara-ebersole-1846-1922-lancaster-pa-1879-ink-and-watercolor-fraktur-bookplate-1","title":"Amish Artist Barbara Ebersole (1846-1922) Lancaster, PA 1879 Ink and Watercolor Fraktur Bookplate","description":"\u003cp\u003e\u003cmeta charset=\"utf-8\"\u003eSome months ago I found my first bookplate by Amish artist Barbara Ebersole \u003cmeta charset=\"utf-8\"\u003e(Lancaster County, PA, 1846-1922) and then this week, from the same dealer, purchased another. \u003cmeta charset=\"utf-8\"\u003e Ebersole produced watercolor paintings, needleworks, and birth, marriage and death certificates (significant now also in tracing the development of the Lancaster County Amish community), but she is especially known for her fraktur watercolor bookplates, of which this is a quintessential example.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThis plate, and the book to which it was once attached, belonged to \u003cmeta charset=\"utf-8\"\u003e\u003cspan class=\"rQesXe MPyX\"\u003eChristian Speicher,\u003c\/span\u003e the brother of the \u003cmeta charset=\"utf-8\"\u003eLea Speicher who was the original owner of the other I found, so clearly they came from the same estate. Written the 25th of September in the year 1879.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eExamples of Ebersole's bookplates are quite coveted, with plenty of auction records out there. (A 1916 example, quite similar to this one, though still attached to its book, recently sold at Horst for \u003cmeta charset=\"utf-8\"\u003e\u003cspan\u003e$2,350.)
