One sometimes sees 19th century pin cushions made to celebrate a birth (particularly with messages spelled out in stick pins); perhaps the time here marks the moment of a child's arrival in the world? (In which case one imagines the pin cushion used to hold diaper pins!) Or perhaps the 4:48 points to a biblical reference--what I turn up is John 4:48, which relates to the question of faith vs. proof \u003cspan\u003e(\u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan class=\"woj\"\u003e“\u003cmeta charset=\"utf-8\"\u003e \u003cspan\u003eExcept ye see signs and wonders, ye will not believe.\u003c\/span\u003e”) Or maybe it marked the time when our seamstress could put her sewing away and prepare to close up shop for the day! (I like this notion best, a pin cushion clock as note to self to go home!) Whatever the case, quite excellent I think. \u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e3 1\/4\" d x 2 1\/2\" t. Good condition, general light wear from use, with most pin wear near the center of the clock. A few later stiches reinforcing the seam up the side, and one small stain just under the 9 of the clock, I have not tried to clean away.
