Emile Bluteau Lumberjack Twins Sawing Log Folk Art Sculpture

Regular price $150.00

This fabulous tabletop sculpture of two lumberjacks sawing a log is the wonderful work of Emile Bluteau (1931-?), a well known Quebecois folk artist, who began carving in the late 70s, first birds and then "the human condition in all its moods and shapes" as described by Lyle Elder, a great documenter of Canadian folk and outsider art.

I absolutely love these very Canadian lumberjack twins, so sharp in their buffalo plaid shirts and red caps, and what a team they make sawing this real little log! Bluteau primarily worked with found/scavanged materials, and the rust on this little saw blade certainly attests to that. More about Bluteau and additional images of his work here.

I think this piece probably dates from the 1990s or so. It is in excellent, more or less pristine condition. 9 7/8" long x 8" tall x 3 1/8" wide.
