American Oil on Board Painting of Fallen Tree, Signed REA, 1949

Regular price $180.00

I purchased this painting from an online seller, especially for those painterly soft green leaves against puffy cloud filled sky reminding me of Arthur Wesley Dow, and it is even better in person, where you can reach out and touch the impasto!  I think it is a pretty interesting painting too, with this half-dead, half-living, half-fallen, half-rising, somewhat awkward but also graceful tree that  I--perhaps it is because I am nearing fifty!--might take as a metaphor for the cycle and nature of life. Plus a few big rocks (obstacles) in the creek and a serene far horizon to complete the scene!

Oil on wood panel, in a old gold-painted wooden frame, with wired back for hanging. The signature of the artist at bottom left is largely concealed by the frame, and I have not removed it to check, but I understand from the seller I purchased it from that it is signed REA and dated 1949. Very good condition; there is one light surface scratch at lower left tuning diagonal from base of tree to corner; minor and not ready noticeable unless you are looking for it.

Overall size: 19 1/2" x 15 1/2" x 2". Painting: 17 3/4" x 13 3/4".
