Two Prize Roosters, Greenville NY, Early 20th Century Drawings

Regular price $48.00

I've gotten to where I think there is nothing I like more than drawings like these, created not so much to be artful as to serve a function, in this case documenting two prize roosters (I believe roosters rather than hens but I could be wrong) bred by a M.D Chesbro in Greenville, NY. Clearly the pumpkin-red color of the Red Quill above was its most important attribute, which the J.D. Gay at bottom seems all about those tail feathers! Such proud things in all respects!

The drawings were cut out and mounted to the black paper of old photo album, showing a few old photos on the reverse side--one of two men standing on a fence and dated 1919, the other the Ashokan Dam, in Ulster County, NY. The black paper could certainly be cut to separate the two roosters, but I think they make a pretty great pair as is. Sheet size 8" x 5 3/4". Top drawing 5 3/8" x 3 1/2"; bottom 4 1/2" x 3 3/8". Some stains both on the drawings and on the black paper, which in this case is as it should be, I think.
