Rare C. 1880s Stereoview of Hartford State Capital Main Stairway

Regular price $18.00

Another antique stereoview that I like for the geometries and almost Escher-esque sense of infinite continuum, existent with the CT State Capital staircase to begin with but much amplified by the double image. At the time the image was taken, the state capital--designed by prominent architect Richard M. Upjohn in a high Victorian gothic style--had just recently been completed (1879), so this was an early framing of what has since become an iconic feature of a building renowned as a architectural mastepiece.

6 15/16" x 3 1/2" and in overall good condition with general wear, a stain to the card at lower left and a bit of surface loss to upper right corner.
