SOLD Willis Hutchinson 1883 Double-Sided Drawing: Tiny Animals + Portrait of Home

Sale price $25.00 Regular price $30.00

This double-sided drawing accompanied a small sketchbook by a Willis Hutchinson, dated 1883-84, filled with drawings of people and houses and animals and ships and all sorts of other little things, with pretty amazing attention detail throughout - listed individually. On lined paper, this one with was done separately, featuring a drawing of Willis' family's house and farm (and cemetery?) on one side, complete with arrow pointing to "Home." On the reverse, some wonderful tiny drawings of an array of animals along one side, including Robbin [sic] and duck looking as if balanced on the back of a cow!

Based on a couple of (super sweet!) hand-drawn maps, I believe our Willis likely lived in Port Jefferson in Suffolk County, NY, on the North Shore of Long Island. Wilis’ name and the year 1883 appears on one page of the sketchook, which the last photo below details.

8" x 4 7/8".  Some scattered age toming/staining that shows slightly orange in spots  and old fold lines from where it was folded into quarters. No tears and paper is not especially brittle.
