Handmade Crepe Paper Pilgrim (or Nun?) with Pencil Drawn Wooden Face

Sale price $18.00 Regular price $26.00

No way could I not bring this little woman home, who I found a few days ago in New Hampshire. At first I took her for a nun, but now I think more likely she was meant to be a pilgrim. Her maker did a pretty brilliant job with her crepe paper dress, especially the almost origami-like wrap of her bonnet turning into shawl, knotted in the back. There are pipe cleaners under her sleeves for arms, and a wooden torso, animated with this great pencil drawn face: my favorite sort of starry eyes, and at the top corner, a perfect triangle of hair, peeking out under her head covering!

6 1/4" tall; 1 1/2" wide at head, 4 1/8" wide at skirt. Excellent condition. I would guess 1940s or so as that seems to be when crepe paper dolls were pretty popular.
