I only recently came across another example of an antique oil cloth ball like this one, which someone else scooped up before I could, but it started me looking for another (really I've become sort of obsessed with them)--and I've discovered they are pretty coveted things. This is a large one--almost 6 inches in diameter--and I've found a few others of this size out there described as juggling or carnival balls. I'm not sure, but it is definitely beautiful, sewn of soft periwinkle blue and red oil cloth, stuffed full with soft but substantial stuffing giving it a nice weight. I'd treat it as a sculpture and find a proud place for it.
Approx 5 7/8" in diameter x 4 3/4" tall. Late 19th/early 20th century I believe. There is one seam that was mended at some point and there are a few spots on the cloth that show some wear, but overall its is in very good antique condition with all of the seams holding tight.
