A beauty of a creature I think, with small brass nails for eyes, a horsehair mane and tail, and a neck that moves up and down. The elegant shape of its carved head with the those pointy ears really gets me, and makes me believe late 19th c. Perfectly stark and strong in its original black paint. I see no evidence that this horse was once part of a pull toy or had a rocking base, but I suppose it is possible.
8 5/8" l x 8 3/4" t with head raised; 6 3/8" with head down. Very good condition, very sturdy and sound, with just a bit of paint loss at the tips of the ears.
