Sweet Naive 1880s Graphite Drawing of Hillside Village with Church

Sale price $25.00 Regular price $34.00

I'm really smitten with this sweet little "naive" pencil drawing of a hillside village, one of two in the shop that came from a larger collection of drawings executed by the unknown artist on a Grand Tour encompassing Italy, Germany, Switzerland and Norway. I love everything about it, perhaps the way the row of trees march neatly up the hill behind the village most of all, punctuated by a cross at the very top, but also those tiny benches, all those windows, and the great steeple on that church! It was done in the 1880s, about the same time that painter Paul Signac became aware of Henri Rousseau, and "Naive Art" came into fashion.

Very good overall condition, with a few small dark stains and smudges. Images are a but more yellow-pink than actual drawings. 4 3/16" x 5 5/8".
