I've always got an eye out for antique snuff boxes, shoe-shaped and otherwise! This pretty one, mid to late 19th century, is lacquered papier mache, I believe intended to resemble tortoiseshell, though with the marbling more reddish than brown. The silver inlay (I'm not certain if sterling) appears almost entirely in tact, with a great combination of little flowers, squares, and fish-shapes. (I see one little square missing). Very lovely.
Very good condition inside and out and lid still fits perfectly. 2 15/16" in diameter x 3/4" tall.
