A few last 19th century ink and watercolor butterfly drawings from a portfolio of half a dozen or so I purchased from a favorite dealer in the Hudson River Valley several weeks ago. This butterfly is unidentified on the page, but a quick search tells me the beautiful orange creature is known as a Hoary Comma! Very finely done, with some gold painted details on the body and near interior of the wings, and then this very delicate spring of pink blooms. Lovely.
9 1/4" x 7 1/4" and in very good condition.
