D'Alveydre Equilibriste Antique Vaudeville Postcard

Sale price $18.00 Regular price $22.00

This is one of three early vaudeville postcards I purchased together from one seller, all of which I found pretty curious: this one advertising d’Alveydre the Equilibriste (the othersGoodlow (with Miss Lily) and their comic trampoline act and Jackly’s ‘The Funny’. I’ve done some searching and haven’t turned up any information on any of them; there is a small part of me that thinks they are actually Surrealist creations, a notion most supported by the fact of Surrealist interest in the writings of French occultist Alexandre Saint-Yves d’Alveydre {d’Alveydre the Equlibriste???—meaning balancer, or tightrope walker.) I’m pretty sure I’m making this up, but in any case I think these are pretty surreal and pretty fabulous, this one a print of a hand-drawn image with out equilibriste poised atop a table and two stools with chair in hand and  lamp on head! Early 20th century.

5 5/8” x 3 5/8 and in very good condition, just some minor soiling.
